ABSTRACT

This chapter lists the specialized dictionaries and encyclopedias that provide detailed definitions and explanations for anthropology and related social sciences. It describes the works that are classified into one of only two categories: encyclopedia and dictionary. The primary purpose of an encyclopedia includes the following: it is used as a source of answers to factual questions, such as who, what, where, when, and how; as a source of background information; and as a source of direction to addition material in a given subject area. Encyclopedia of the social sciences is the first comprehensive encyclopedia of the social sciences, projected and prepared under the auspices of ten learned societies. The main portion of the work covers important concepts and advances in anthropology, economics, law, political science, social work, and sociology. Encyclopedia of the Third world describes and compares the political, economic, and social systems of 126 countries of the Third World.
