ABSTRACT

Most academic libraries will have a collection of local, state, national, and international documents, as well as indexes and guides for their use. Government publications offer a range of data, either "raw" or analyzed. Government documents are generally more difficult to locate than other published material, not only because of their quality but also because of the ways in which they are classified. Many libraries do not use the Dewey or Library of Congress Classification systems for government documents. The multitude of publications by over a hundred national governments provides a vast range of resources on many topics, not the least of which are anthropological. Introduction to the basic sources and structure of information contained in Federal government publications; includes sections on categories of documents and reports. The official list of government publications since 1895, gives the current publications issued by all branches of the federal government.
