ABSTRACT

This chapter presents ideas and suggestions for establishing the Multinational Business Development Fund (MBDF) as a framework for viable economic ventures in Lebanon and along its borders. These ideas and suggestions will be outlined in terms of their long-term prospects for continued viable collaborative enterprises. There exists in Southern Lebanon a situation whose gravity and potential ramifications become more pronounced with the passage of time. These ramifications demand serious attention, consideration, and prompt but careful action. The MBDF is a non-political organization to be established in the United States—with an arm in Lebanon—by Americans and Lebanese concerned with enhancing the prospects for peace, prosperity, and the climate for moderation in Lebanon. The MBDF advocates an economic modality as a basis for resolving the crises in Lebanon and the elimination or reduction of terrorism. From the standpoint of the Southern Lebanese and their devastated economy, any economic arrangement will be an improvement on the situation.
