ABSTRACT

The ultimate purpose of the military system is destruction—destruction of human lives, the man-made environment, and the environment in general. With the total world budget for military systems rapidly approaching $300 billion, in other words about $75 per capita for each member of the human race, there is no doubt that the military formation is a major part of contemporary society. In the conflict formation model, which is rational and in a sense conventional, the military formation is related to conflict formation. According to the structural compatibility model, which again is an intrasystem model, the basic point would be the general structural relation between the military formation and the social formation. As a consequence, a shift in the developmental model more toward model social formations might be accompanied by a similar shift in military formations, and that in and by itself might be highly relevant to disarmament problematics.
