ABSTRACT

This chapter presents the views of migrant Latinos themselves about the utility of the researchers' recommendations. The goal of science is knowledge discovery and creation. There is an additional goal for those scientists who work with groups like migrant Latinos and on pressing social topics like human immunodeficiency virus (HIV) prevention: The generalization of research findings to develop recommendations for changes in policies and programs affecting the groups under study. A major part of the researchers' recommendations focused cn actions which policymakers could take to improve the availability and provision of HIV prevention and Acquired immunodeficiency syndrome services for migrant workers. A minority of the 20 recommendations in the "Definitely Feasible" set is selected by two or more groups of policymakers. Only one recommendation, related to local HIV service organization cooperative planning for HIV prevention, was selected by policymakers at all three levels among their top-ranked choices.
