ABSTRACT

This part conclusion presents some closing thoughts on the key concepts discussed in the preceding chapters. The part discusses some of the myths in public administration, using the apt term "innocent fiction", draws on his many years as a top-level administrator to consider the important subject of defining and locating responsibility. It shows that some professionals are "dead" although they do not recognize that fact. The part also draws on the insights evenly divided between the teaching and the practice of public administration, summarizes and presents, in easily understood terms, a semester's course in motivation. It presents concepts of motivation in the setting of the total picture of supervision and defines each of the major facets in the field. The part outlines that the public has an increased interest in the environment and the large array of federal natural-resource agencies with which state agencies must deal.
