Japanese Agricultural Policy: Unfair and Unreasonable?

Recently, Japanese agricultural policy has often been referred to as being both unfair and unreasonable. The import ban of rice is being blamed as an unfair barrier against foreign producers, and high food prices are being criticized as an unreasonable infringement of domestic consumers' rights. Certainly the policy is protective and interventionist. ¹
