ABSTRACT

Italy is a major player in the East-West relationship. It has an important role in the East-West relationship because in the course of the last decade and a half, Italy has become one of the foremost European actors. One of the problems in Eastern and Central Europe is that labor is immobile, due to the absence of alternative housing. The Central Europeans are increasingly insecure, for reasons that are obvious, that stem from the anxieties in the dynamics of change, particularly to the east of them. Russia must redefine its own essence the way Turkey redefined itself in the wake of the collapse of the Ottoman Empire, when it made a deliberate choice to become a modern national European democratic state. The expansion of political and security links with Kiev are essential in order to consolidate Ukrainian security and to accommodate the Russians to the new normalcy of a separate Ukrainian entity.
