ABSTRACT

In this chapter, the author describes several consulting/subcontract experiences. She deals with background information on her work for the U. S. Corps of Engineers' Institute for Water Resources. The author describes the preliminary social impact assessment of the Springer-Sangamon Environmental Research Project done under subcontract with the Corps of Engineers; use a case study approach to discussion of the San Juan-Chama Project. An anthropologist or other social scientist or planner, who can serve in the capacity of advisor to both agency and community, can prevent the types of problems experienced with the Llano project. The jurisdiction for management and control of the United States' portions of the Rio Grande is divided among various federal agencies. The author outlines the major issues of concern in the current problem according to the agencies and communities involved. Most people in the Espanola Valley need some assistance in developing the economic basis of their communities.
