ABSTRACT
This is a tale of a first encounter — stereotyped perhaps, but quite real nevertheless — with John Gill. Bouldering was a new concept around Estes Park, Colorado, in the early 1960's. None of us locals were quite sure how to approach it. It could be entertaining, but should it ever be taken seriously? The answer put in an appearance one pleasant Saturday afternoon.
