ABSTRACT

Utilization of findings was achieved most effectively through a combination of techniques designed to enhance feedback to all project participants and audiences. In this chapter, the author describes her role in the development of the Model Project of Guardianship for the Low-Income Elderly and her participation in related activities leading to the development of both legislation on adult protective services in Illinois and a model protective service delivery system. She also describes three types of feedback: on-going feedback related directly to programmatic issues and ad hoc problem-solving; immediate feedback to participants in the context of open-ended interviews; and written reports documenting changing attitudes about guardianship, issues related to impact, and areas of special interest. The Guardianship Project was designed to test the feasibility of using guardianship, with the specific goal of maintaining impaired, elderly people in the community.
