ABSTRACT

Libya is located in the center of the northern section of Africa. Its area is 685,000 square miles, more than seven times the size of the United Kingdom. On the north, Libya is bounded by the Mediterranean Sea; on the east, by Egypt and Sudan; on the south, by Sudan, Chad, and Niger; and on the west, by Algeria and Tunisia. Initially Libya was stratified into three major regions: east, west, and south. Each plan has certain goals to be attained, goals that are related to the socioeconomic development of the country. Libya's first five-year socioeconomic development plan was introduced in 1964. In general, the questionnaire employed consisted of two broad topic areas: attitudes and perceptions relating to modernization and socioeconomic characteristics. The findings suggest that great caution must be exercised when evaluating any attempts at induced social change through individual satisfaction levels.
