ABSTRACT

Over the past thirty years nearly all modernization theorists have agreed that the process of modernization refers to following in the footsteps of societies like those of the Western world. Economists emphasize capital formation, a sustained per capita income growth, a balance of payments, economic planning, expansion of agricultural development, and education. The instrument employed in the field test in Peru had been prepared with a view toward its use in different national environments. Thus, the cultural idiosyncrasies of the individual participating countries had been taken into account by the researchers. However, even after these precautions had been taken, the question of the appropriate vocabulary suitable to each of the investigated populations remained open. Peru has an area of approximately 500,000 square miles and a population of about 17.5 million. In terms of spatial development Peru is an interesting case, for its regional problems are strikingly apparent.
