ABSTRACT

The idea of the United Nations does correspond to the concept of a family of man—at least insofar as practically all states on earth are members. This universal political organization is sometimes lacking in family spirit, as some people at this table might have witnessed. The United Nations has welcomed many new members from the Third World. It has provided a forum for them to voice their grievances and their hopes. The attitude of future mothers and fathers is certainly also dependent on economic and social circumstances. In a great many poor nations, children are seen as welcome additions to a family's labor force. The awareness of interdependence among people and among nations is one of the most hopeful phenomena of our times. But it is the acting out of this awareness which gives meaning to the recognition of this key factor in world politics.
