ABSTRACT

The transfer of agroclimate information technology from the start must deal with a series of problems inherent in the development setting. As a result of data collection efforts over the past 20–30 years, there are now sufficient climatic and agronomic data in almost every country, especially in the more important agricultural regions, to feed an information system. This chapter addresses the process by which one can answer the challenge in the area of agroclimate information technology transfer. A process approach can maximize the possibility that a technology transfer project will achieve its goal: in this case, the implementation of a dynamic, benefit-producing information system in a specific country or region. Information Flow Model describes the flow of information through a system that integrates the technology and the persons involved in the transfer process. An important aspect of the information flow in the human interactions submodel is that it does not indicate a direct (person-to-person) connection between scientists and farmers.
