ABSTRACT

This chapter presents a model for assessing the impacts of rapid growth and identifying alternative strategies for effective growth management. Many impact documents use the term "socioeconomic impacts" to include a wide variety of demographic, economic, fiscal, and social impacts. Prior to developing any strategies for managing rapid growth, analysts, government officials, and concerned citizens should identify the demographic, economic, fiscal, and social impacts which may occur. Local government and other agencies providing public services have been doing an adequate job in the past, but they are understaffed and cannot meet the many new demands which will accompany the anticipated growth. Major developments in addition to the impacting project which may lead to economic, demographic, fiscal, and social impacts in a local setting. The chapter also presents some closing thoughts on the key concepts discussed in the preceding chapters of this book.
