ABSTRACT

According to the data obtained from the State Statistical Bureau of China, primary energy production in 1984 totaled 766 million tons of coal equivalent. China's Energy Policy is based on the special characteristics and distinguishing features of the energy situation in the country. Solar energy should play an important role in western China where energy resources are limited but where solar incidence is high. All measures for energy conservation must be technically feasible, economically rational, acceptable to the community, and permissible under environmental regulations. Energy conservation measures include: strengthening the administration of enterprises and abolishing waste; tapping the full potential of enterprises; renovation of equipment and overall rebuilding; rational distribution and use of energy resources; changing both the industrial structure and the product slate. Chinese scientists, engineers, and management experts are determined to strive for the best possible savings in energy consumption, for structural readjustment, and for higher efficiency of energy utilization.
