ABSTRACT
The papers contained in this volume examine the various faces of information science as an emerging discipline. Each one reflects a different facet of the ferment which is being experienced by this relatively new science. But before the reader explores these research issues and their many subtle interrelationships, it might be of interest to gain an overview of the field from the perspective of a research funding agency.
