ABSTRACT
The patients' rights covered in Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Health Center's (MLK's) pamphlet include many often ignored in other clinics. Along with patients' rights come patients' responsibilities. Patients are asked to be responsible for those things that help the health center provide better care for them. One of the most important rights protected at MLK is confidentiality of patient information. Confidentiality encourages full disclosure of information by a patient to the medical professional or other member of the health team. The complaint procedure is designed to resolve problems in the quickest way possible. Patient dignity was the issue in numerous complaints about a physician in the eye clinic. If patients know that what they tell a doctor, family health worker, or nurse will go no further than the members of the team without their consent, they will be encouraged to provide the information necessary for proper diagnosis and treatment.
