ABSTRACT

Gotthold Müller, professor of theology at the University of Würzburg, held that technology must be a matter of unique concern for the Judeo-Christian tradition because technology developed out of that tradition and because of the view that technology is part of "history" in which God acts. Man must therefore have developed his technology as part of some divine plan. But, since technology is neutral, according to Müller, man must be responsible for its direction—and he should direct it in accordance with the active dictates of the Judeo-Christian tradition.
