ABSTRACT

Although it is easy to draw up a list of the major problems besetting humankind during the final decades of the twentieth century, when one attempts to trace connections between these problems and the technological elements of contemporary society the task becomes much more complicated. Just because the problems are contemporaneous with the development of an urbanized, industrial society does not necessarily mean that there is a causal link between technology and the problems. And if there is such a link, what is its nature? In brief, how do the problems of the modern world interact with our technology?
