ABSTRACT

The physical environment is an object of increasing concern, not only to environmental scientists but also to health practitioners. The destruction of our natural environment through air, noise, and water pollution is recognized as a major undesirable effect of our ever accelerating technological development. The dawn of human history saw humanity developing and adapting to a specific sunlight, adjusting and timing its internal physiology and activities to the sun and the sky’s unique range of radiation and colors. Near optimum environmental conditions existed in the regions where humankind had their greatest sociocultural beginnings. Ecological pressures forced people to migrate from their place of origin. A high price was paid, for when people moved from optimal environmental conditions to suboptimal, their general life span was drastically shortened. Exposure to “healthy” sunlight was greatly reduced, as were the associated benefits derived from sunlight.
