ABSTRACT
The New Yorker magazine once published a cartoon that depicted Manhattan as constituting virtually all of the United States, with several of the larger states appearing as microscopic satellites. As a native of one such appendage, I enjoy welcoming you, from so many even more remote places, to this great city.
