ABSTRACT

The purpose of this chapter is (a) to describe the common approaches to conducting systematic reviews and meta-analyses, and (b) to provide a brief summary of the recent systematic reviews and meta-analyses relevant to the area of adapted physical education (APE). First, systematic review and meta-analysis are defined and described in relation to empirical primary studies. Then the necessary steps of conducting a systematic review and meta-analysis is described, including formulating research question, literature search, review and extract findings, and quality appraisal. The data/finding analysis is described separately for systematic review and meta-analysis, as the former emphasized narrating and categorizing findings, and the latter focused on estimating effect sizes. Finally, recent systematic reviews and meta-analyses are briefly summarized for individuals with disabilities
