ABSTRACT
Brazil confronts the challenge of how best to promote innovation to further spur development in the 21st century. Brazil’s uneven experience with state-led innovation has relevance for BRICS, Latin America, and other middle-income countries. Brazil faces major challenges and opportunities in five key areas: engaging the global economy; aligning industrial and innovation policies; supporting institutional innovations; fostering collaboration between business and universities; and promoting strategic sectors.
