ABSTRACT

Poverty is simply the state of not having the usual or socially acceptable income to make a living. From a broad perspective, it can be seen that the concept of poverty is multidimensional. Despite the differences in poverty and income inequality figures in various countries, the poorest/weakest group in the poor is usually women and children. Concepts such as the weakness and exclusion of women in social areas also emerge along with women’s poverty. In this study, the causes of women’s poverty in Turkey, its size, and the effectiveness of the work on prevention will be discussed. It should not be forgotten that one of the basic conditions for women’s empowerment is for them to be economically free and self-sufficient. The increase in women’s employment will directly contribute to the national income. Moreover, increased employment will also increase the visibility and effectiveness of women in the social sphere.
