ABSTRACT

In this chapter the influence of institutional competing logics on the identity work of female entrepreneurs in Turkey is contextualized by reviewing the formal and informal cultural and structural arrangements experienced by female entrepreneurs. This survey provides the current state of female entrepreneurship and female entrepreneurship research in Turkey. Feminist theorizing is reviewed to bring together gender, identity and entrepreneurship allowing us to highlight the importance of intersectionality that facilitates the exploration of the multi-layered identity work that manifests in entrepreneurial identities, by means of engaging in discursive relationships. The purpose of this chapter is to consider bottom-up approaches developed through the application of theories to identify notions that may be useful in practice, with the aim of stabilizing activities in practice within their current contextual state. In return, the activities that have been stabilized within practice will allow the testing and developing of contributions towards helping the individual power over her activities and environment.
