ABSTRACT

Miguel Alejandro Híjar-Chiapa in ‘From Distant Relations to Close Partners: India's Relations with Australia and New Zealand' overviews the Indian relationship with its commonwealth partners to the East, Australia and New Zealand. Though considered weak and meaningless partnerships in the beginning, since the nations found little relevance in pursuing ties post-independence and during the Cold War, the rise of China and the eastward shift in policy leanings worldwide have brought the India–Australia–New Zealand relationship to light, where the focus on the Indo-Pacific has resulted in stronger partnerships, likely to bolster in the coming decades.
