ABSTRACT

Satoru Nagao in ‘Rapid Development of India–Japan Cooperation: Its Chance and Challenges' undertakes an examination of the basis and prognosis of the India–Japan relations. Nagao understands that China has historically capitalized on military vacuums. Thus, in order to fight against the rise of China, India and Japan should invest in cultivating the infrastructure growth of the region as well as supporting Southeast Asia's rise. Nagao proposes that the Quad must be a proper counterbalance to China in the Indo-Pacific region. Yet, although China is a common threat to both India and Japan, it should not be the sole reason for India and Japan's closeness.
