ABSTRACT

Christopher Colley in ‘The Transformation of the Indo/China Rivalry in the 21st Century: The Rise of the Maritime Domain' argues that the origins of the modern Indo/China rivalry can be traced to the late 1940s, coming to a head in the 1962 border war fought by the two countries along their common frontier. Colley argues that the rivalry is increasingly being played out in the Indian Ocean Region (IOR). According to Colley over the past two decades India's rivalry with China has become increasingly linked to China's rivalry with the U.S., and it is now difficult to fully separate the two rivalries.
