ABSTRACT

The official relationship between Nepal and European Union (the then European Community) was established in 1975. Since then 45 years of Nepal–EU relations have been completed. Nepal's relation with the EU has been directed by Nepal's constitution, UN charter, principles of Panchsheel, non-alignment, and international laws. EU's relation with Nepal has been directed by its goals and values laid out in the Lisbon treaty. So far, Nepal–EU relations have been warm, cordial, and friendly. The EU has remained as one of the major development partners of Nepal. EU–Nepal relationship has been further strengthened by the exchange of high-level visits and joint meetings. EU's support to Nepal has centred on 5P's (people, planet, prosperity, peace, and partnership). From 2014 through 2020, the EU has been supporting Nepal to achieve its development goals through three sectors: sustainable rural development, education, democracy, and reconstruction. Nepal–EU relations have been centred on political relations, economic relations, and development cooperation.
