ABSTRACT

This conclusion presents some closing thoughts on the key concepts discussed in the preceding chapters of this book. The book proposes four major themes evident across the authors’ narratives and analyses: erasure of being and, in response, the urgency of agency, the value and recovery of testimonios, and the related sense of ‘being-knowing-doing’ in the moment-to-moment interactions that shape activist identities. It describes the language loss initiated by the author's abuela in reaction to the punishment she endured when she spoke Spanish as a child in school. The book presents the labor and artistry that can contribute to prophetic claims for change that will echo across generations, and describes the embodied worry and sense of erasure they both feel.
