ABSTRACT

This introduction presents an overview of the key concepts discussed in the subsequent chapters of this book. The book discusses the ‘Ecological Sustainability and Practical Wisdom from the Maasai and Hadza People in East Africa’, Aloysius Newenham-Kahindi and Charles E. Stevens present the traditional ecological wisdom of the pastoralist Maasai and the hunter-gatherer Hadza people in Tanzania, East Africa. It also discusses ‘The Wisdom of Differentiating Between Indigenous Leader and Indigenous Leadership’, Tess Ryan and Michelle Evans speak candidly to Australian Indigenous leaders who eschew being singled out as ‘leaders’ and rail against ‘positional authority’. The book argues that ‘Conceptions of Wisdom in Rural Uganda: A Different View of What’s Important in Life’, Innocent Atwijukire and Judith Gluck take us into mountainous villages of Uganda, a country with a long tradition of orally transmitted wisdom. It explains how transplanar wisdom could be integrated with leadership education and especially ethics.
