ABSTRACT

Consequent upon recent revisions to the National Curriculum, Technology and English are the only subjects to retain Profile Components, defined by the National Curriculum Council in an unpublished resource pack, as ‘groups of Attainment Targets brought together for the purposes of assessment and reporting’. Primary schools employ a range of delivery strategies in relation to technology. By far the most common is the integrated project or topic approach in which a study of, say, castles gives rise to work involving many subjects. For example, history, geography, mathematics and technology. Cultural diversity has always been a feature of British life. The different cultural and linguistic backgrounds of pupils are becoming valued properly as a means of developing a richer learning environment for all. One of the challenges is to explore ways in which the subject technology can both benefit from, and contribute to, perceptions of the multicultural society.
