ABSTRACT

While research interruptions can be fairly common occurrences, certain forms of research are likely to yield to more frequent interruptions. What goals for education research may be worth tolerating the risk and stress of interruption? This chapter reviews interruption in makerspace research to illustrate the principle of the weakness and risk of education, a term attributed to Gert Biesta. If one is interested in the emancipation of those whom we educate, seeking a mechanistic, “strong” form of education may not be ethical. Similar considerations apply to research, with implications for achieving planned research.
