ABSTRACT

This chapter provides a personal account from a non-native speaker of English of the challenges experienced in the process of publishing academic papers, as well asthe author’s strategies to overcome those challenges. It uncovers the process of how a non-native speaker may deal with criticism, understand decision letters and reviewers’ comments, approach the process of language editing, and find motivation to persist with revision. The exposition of this process offers useful insights for graduate advisors, teachers of academic writing, editors, and researchers who are non-native speakers of English.
