ABSTRACT

This chapter considers the various pathways of the participants in becoming teacher educators. It provides a discussion of the related literature sources concerning some areas of the teacher educators. The chapter offers the first of the three elements for understanding some of the contexts of what makes community educationists become teacher trainers. It explains the teacher educators' initial disciplinary areas, the pathways to becoming teacher educators and the titles of their roles as educators. There appear to be a very few related sources to draw on from a discussion perspective. And where they were, most of them lacked the detailed study of this investigation. Following these caveats, from the first investigated aspect of the initial subject areas, over 80 per cent of the participants might have started with occupational areas. If this is the case, then there are significant questions to be asked in critiquing the generic teacher training approach in this further education sector.
