ABSTRACT

This chapter focuses on the professional identities of further education teacher educators. A review of the identities is used as a starting basis for delineating professional identities. The sources used are located in the publications on professional identities of teacher educators. John Donne's vision of humankind resonates with teacher educators' professional selves and on a contemporary note, the emotional turmoil in the United Kingdom with the recurrent theme of the nation's relationship with the Continent, as experienced by Donne nearly 400 years ago. Teacher educators could be seen as ‘connected professionals’, the idea that people are a lot more things including connecting to the community. Professional identity, therefore, relates to our inherited traits and acquired knowledge, experiences, and achievements within the social contexts in which teacher educators inhabit. The teacher educators' past, current, and future experiences of their teaching, life, and occupations affect their professional selves, which are regularly revised.
