ABSTRACT

In this commentary chapter, my goal is to evaluate how the authors in this innovative book – namely, the authors of Chapters 15 through 18 – have applied mixed methods social network analysis (MMSNA). A constant comparison analysis of these four chapters revealed the following five themes that suggest optimal practices for conducting MMSNA: participatory, reflexive, integrated, critical, and ethical, yielding the acronym PRICE. Each of these themes is discussed. Of these five themes, the themes of participatory, reflexive, and critical were promoted by all four sets of authors. Interestingly, no chapter promoted all five PRICE themes; however, all chapters promoted four of them. These five themes led to the development of the PRICE process for MMSNA, which represents a dynamic, continuous, iterative, interactive, synergistic, integrative, xenophilous, holistic, and integral process.
