ABSTRACT

The arts and cultural industries provide a vibrant platform for engagement with business, allowing corporations and other key sectors such as Higher Education to showcase their role as corporate citizens. This chapter helps us to better understand the potential of corporate giving in the context of our fundraising practice and/or organisation. Corporate Social Responsibility can be a complicated area as businesses structure their CSR support in different ways. Companies could also provide a corporate donation where there is usually no reciprocity in terms of benefits. Arts and cultural organisations need to decide whether taking on a funding relationship will not only further its artistic cause but also whether it can genuinely stand up to its core values. Corporate sponsorship partnerships are most effective when it is accepted that the success with which funding is generated is necessarily dependent on both the organisation’s assets and/or the quality of the organisation’s activities.
