ABSTRACT

The contributions in this book include many case studies from different parts of the world, with different socio-economic and cultural contexts, as well as theoretical assumptions and proposals. In spite of such differences, the contributions suggest implications of some potential developments in the areas of community imperatives, theoretical underpinnings, and methodological approaches. This concluding chapter presents community imperatives and some constraining factors collected from case studies; theoretical possibilities for constructing a combined approach derived from the technocratic and empowerment approaches; and some possible future research directions. The chapter concludes by calling for a partnership to pursue collaborative research as an interdisciplinary social endeavor with community actors.
