ABSTRACT

In the subjoined extracts from manucripts local and otherwise relating to the Sudan, especially Nigeria and surrounding countries ir is recognised that there is much which is contradictory, much which is inexact; nevertheless these extracts read together, present a picture of the Sudan in past ages, of which the general outline is sufficiently clear to give considerable help both to ethnologists and those who may in future concern themselves with a detailed study of the various peoples and regions mentioned in them.
