ABSTRACT

Most Egyptian cities suffer from deterioration in all life systems of their built environments. The problem is further exacerbated by the gap between theoretical systems and corresponding practical systems in which policies have always emphasized the physical aspects of development rather than the lived experience. This traditional approach has overlooked the extent to which development achieves livability in order to reach the quality of life at which the community can live in symbiotic harmony with its urban environment. This chapter demonstrates, through the example of Al-Rehab City, how livability can enhance principles and approaches of livable communities.
