ABSTRACT

Postdisciplinarity is not just a buzzword or meaningless slogan, but a concept that makes sense in a dynamic of openness and transgression between disciplinary walls and conducive to scientific discovery and creativity. This newly born concept, and the research and action practices it inspires, resonates with the relatively well-established concepts of interdisciplinarity and transdisciplinarity. This chapter takes stock of this configuration of approaches and their possible articulation. The place that postdisciplinarity can occupy in the academic field is conceived from a prospective, heuristic and exploratory approach. The development scenarios sketched out enrich reflection on the possible future of universities which are still massively disciplinary. Among the different profiles of researchers echoing these scenarios of the future, that of postdisciplinarity is characterized by its epistemic disobedience and its non-compliance with the disciplinary model.
