ABSTRACT

This hybrid text merges diaristic writing with documentary poetry, academic citations, and photographs of diverse subjects such as cage fighting, incarceration, and abandoned casino architecture. The authors use a central motif of cages to investigate embodiment, imprisonment, boundaries, spectatorship, gaze, movement, build environments, and memory. An experimental graphic layout mixes textual and visual elements and provides the reader with the potential to take different pathways through the themes. The combination of the modes of writing and visualizing with the form and content speculatively extend the themes and their applicability to various related topics, politics, theories, and personal experiences.
