      ABSTRACT

This chapter provides a framework for approaching the teaching of content management in courses. Content management should first be considered within the context of a curriculum, which addresses the general competencies graduates should develop, specific competencies in content management, and how specific competencies needed by students vary depending on the role for which the curriculum is preparing them, including a planner (such as a content strategist), creator (such as a technical writer), production assistant, or manager. Content management is then taught within the context of individual coursers. Rather than addressing content management competencies in a single course, instructors develop particular competencies with content management in specific courses in the curriculum. When doing so, instructors should link content management to the broader competencies developed by the curriculum and develop these competencies through authentic assignments. This approach offers many advantages to instructors.
