ABSTRACT

The chapter tells the story of an organizational assignment with a not-for-profit (charity) organization, through the eyes of the consultant who contains the chaos following a hostile takeover and merger. Organizational dynamics, leadership, and counter-transference responses are explored in detail, resistance is explored and the Drama Triangle articulates the complex dance of persecutor, victim, and rescuer. The chronology, beginning, middle, and end of the story, is set against ‘five questions’ devised by the consultant as a diagnostic tool. The vignette presents the consultant with questions about the nature of professionalism and an ethical dilemma which is described in this chapter and discussed in chapter four
