ABSTRACT

This introduction presents an overview of the key concepts discussed in the subsequent chapters of this book. The book explains about the importance of history and collective memory and focuses on challenges related to the globalization and technological development that European citizens are facing. It presents a very simple yet important solution to address most of the challenges that is the importance of relations and interdependence. The book discusses the attitude of Poles towards the other, as a Pole and Syrian respectively. It draws on the perspective of the German ‘Welcoming Culture’, whereas Thor Kristian Island reflects on the attitude towards the other with regard to feelings of inferiority and superiority. The book analyzes the social processes leading to it, and Shmuel Bernstein asks if one country leaving the EU can break it. It shows how to work with descendants of both perpetrators and victims.
