ABSTRACT

Through his innovative practices and reflections on the martial arts, Bruce Lee, the famous martial artist and movie actor, has inspired people from both East and West. Although his life was short, his philosophical observations and interpretations of the martial arts were articulated in his Tao of Jeet Kune Do, which has enlightened gong-fu practitioners and audiences like a bright comet. His movies have convinced audiences of the distinguished charisma of his gong-fu style, which has been adopted by other martial arts movie stars, such as Jacky Chan and Jet Li. In order to have a deeper understanding of Bruce Lee’s ingenious concept of Jeet Kune Do, this chapter will first draw attention to Bruce Lee’s life, along with the development of his gong-fu and the making of his movies, and then examine the main principles of his Jeet Kune Do in the second section. It will conclude that Bruce Lee’s legacy has been embedded in people’s minds transnationally and globally, especially in the form of martial arts movies.
