ABSTRACT

The disturbance manifested itself suddenly in the dream, as did the major sexual impact on her history of the enigmatic message delivered by her parents. A complex process then begins for, on the adult's side, cultural transmissions and bodily care are infiltrated by unconscious sexual phantasies. A dissymmetrical situation is thus created: the adult, who is the bearer of a sexual unconscious, which is an enigma for the recipient and for himself, transmits it to an infans who receives passively what he does not have the psychic capacity to integrate and translate because his topography is only in a fledgling state. Such is the content of the enigmatic message, a term Jean Laplanche prefers to that of “signifier” to underline that prior to spoken language there is a heterogeneous communication to which the child is exposed as soon as he is born.
